Uploading large sized images is always a nuisance when using many of the image hosting services. Imgur (pronounced as Img-er) for example has a image size cap of 1 MB. This is always a problem if you want to share your high resolution photos on the web. Thankfully Picstocloud, a new image sharing website makes this task much easier by letting you upload large photos for free without any size limit.
- Upload high resolution images without any size restrictions
- Delete images after you are done. More on this later
- Easy sharing over social networks and email.
- Store your images without any time restrictions.
- HTTPS Security and no access to uploaded images without the link.
Picstocloud – Upload Large Photos for Free
Using picstocloud is extremely simple and intuitive. All you are presented with is a plain website where you need to drag and drop images. I tried to upload 3 images each of 2.5 MB of size and picstocloud uploaded them quite speedily without any tantrums.
If you open the uploaded images, upon hovering on them you get some barebone options like save full size image, email, share link and delete. Social feature is definitely not as complete as most of the image hosting services at the moment and definitely needs more expansion. The delete feature is something impressive to talk about though.
Major social networks and image hosting services often come under the scanner for not removing the photos from the sites even after user has deleted them. Picstocloud comes in handy here, it lets you delete your images after you are done. The files are removed within a maximum of 30 minutes after the user has opted for deleting the image. Facebook on the other hand even after switching to the new photo storage systems can take “up to 30 days”.
The developers of picstocloud seem to have taken privacy issues very seriously. One feature worth mentioning about picstocloud is HTTPS encryption of images, something most of the image hosting sites are lacking. The icing on the cake here is that one can not even browse public images on picstocloud like other photo on Imgur or Photobucket. The only way you can view a image is with the URL of the uploaded image.
A lacking feature was generation of multiple links after uploading the image. You are given just a single URL for the whole album. Generation of a direct link to image at the least would have sufficed.
While picstocloud still has a host of missing features to catch up with the popular Image hosting platforms, it can be a solid platform if you are searching for an easy way to upload large photos for free and securely share images without worrying about the privacy and file size.
