iOS Crash is a pretty rare phenomenon as Apple has put in a lot of effort to make it’s OS Stable. But if you have jailbroken your iPhone, it’s a different story. Depending upon the various tweaks installed via Cydia, the frequency with which iOS Crashes are seen, varies greatly.
Two common causes of iOS Crashes:
- There are a large number of Apps running simultaneously, eating up lot of resources and your iPhone was not able to withstand the load.
- An App from Cydia, which might be a tweak or widget or possibly anything, is causing problems.
If the first instance happens then no need to worry. Your iphone is just a restart away from getting back in shape. However, if the second instance is the cause, then you need to work on it and find way through. This kind of crash is consistent and keeps occurring till you remove the App causing the crash.
The general approach to this problem is deleting recently installed Cydia Apps and hoping to fix the problem. But, it is not necessary that the most recently installed App is causing the problem and this might not work. Then another way is to randomly delete some Cydia App just by guessing flaws in some Apps and hoping to get it fixed. However, when there are many Apps, randomly deleting a few will not help and you might delete an App which was perfectly working.
The best way to fix this problem is installing an App named ‘Crash Reporter‘.
You will find it on Cydia and after installing it, you will find its icon in the Menu. What this App basically does is that it diagnoses the exact problem causing crash. i.e. it directly finds that App which is causing trouble in the OS and all you have to do is just go back to Cydia and delete that App.
After that, just restart the Springboard and your iOS is totally Safe and back to normal.
HOW TO USE THIS APP
Basically, after this crash, you have three options ‘OK’, ‘Restart’ and ‘Help’. When the cause of crash is just due to operation overloading, like i stated the first case above, just tap ‘Restart’ and its done.
But, when its the second case, tap on ‘OK’. Then , you enter the ‘Safe mode’ and your iPhone works just fine. You can also use the Web, make calls, and everything except run the Apps installed from Cydia. This is your chance to fix the problem. You can tap on ‘Help’, but there again they have mentioned 5 steps starting with deleting the recent Cydia Apps, or contacting the Dev team, or surfing the net about it and even about Crash reporter. I would suggest just ignore the other options and directly tap on ‘OK’, enter ‘Safe mode’ and head towards a quick solution.
Crash Reporter is an amazing App and Free most importantly. After installing it, launch the App. It will ask you to install two more Apps. These two Apps are trivial and their installation is obligatory as this main App starts working only after their installation. Besides, these installed Apps are also amazing and pretty popular (SBsettings, Syslog)
Then after that, click on Springboard and it will quickly diagnose the problem and come up with name of App or Apps which are responsible for the Crash. Then open
Cydia > Manage > Packages > ‘select that App’ > Modify > Remove
Restart Springboard and you are done!
This app also creates a report of the problem and you can choose to send this report to the App maker, to notify & help him fix the issue.
You can also have the App installed even when iOS is working fine. That will be even better. So, never panic in such situations or think of Restoring your iPhone, just try this solution and retrieve your Jailbreak 🙂
