iOS is a wonderful OS for those who want things to work. However, there are some really frustrating aspects to the OS which can actually be a proper pain. As a tech writer, one of the features I find most frustrating is the inability to transfer images out of my iPhone without having to go through the long process of syncing the device with iTunes.
If you have used any smartphone, you must have used it for capturing just about any moment that may seem to be too important to miss out on. However, bringing those images to a PC is as simple as connecting the device the device via a USB if the device is running Android or even Windows Phone. For iOS though, you can connect your iPhone directly to PC and use as USB. However, if you are on a Mac chances are your iPhone will not be recognised and you will be stuck again.
So here is a little work around where you can use your home Wi-Fi and a free application to wirelessly transfer photos from your iPhone to your computer, be it Mac or Windows.
Download the Magic Application
The application you will need for transferring the photos from your iDevice directly is called W-Fi Photo Transfer. The application is available for free in the Apple App Store, the download link is as follows:
Download: Wi-Fi Photo Transfer available for Download here
You can use this application to only transfer photos from your iPhone to PC and not the other way round, so do keep that in mind
How do I do this Transfer?
To transfer the photos over Wi-Fi just follow these easy steps:
Step 1:
Install the above application we have mentioned to your iPhone and make sure your iPhone and computer are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Step 2:
Fire open the application on your iPhone. You will see an instruction telling you enter a certain URL in your desktop browser. Go ahead and do that, as this will enable you to establish a connection between the mobile device and your PC.
Step 3:
As soon as you visit the webpage, you will see the whole set of pictures present on your device.
You can open the images one by one and download them. You can download photos together as a zip file too.
The UI and Performance
The UI of the application on the desktop is really simple and easy on the eye. There is virtually nothing else apart from transferring that you can do. We kind of like that because there is nothing to get confused with. Things work well and the transfer is really fast.
You also have the option of downloading the photo in various sizes and that is something we really liked because you do not necessarily need an HQ image everywhere, hence you can download slightly smaller size or even medium size of the same picture.
Conclusion
Using Wi-Fi Photo Transfer, you can easily transfer photos using with the help of wi-fi network. You cannot write back on your iPhone and that is pretty much the only gripe we had with the application in otherwise, what was a seamless and smooth experience.
Although there are several other apps that can be used for this transfer, we used this method since it was free and easiest to do. If you have any suggestions or alternatives, do let us know in the comments section below.
