If you love tweeting from desktop clients then you must try MetroTwit if you haven’t already. Its a slick (Windows Only) Twitter client inspired by WP 7’s Metro UI which aims to simplify your Twitter experience.
It does not have a bunch of features like other clients such as TweetDeck or Seesmic or any option to connect with one or more networks like Facebook, Twitter or Myspace but its simplicity will keep you glued to it.
I didn’t prefer using Twitter clients previously. It was its (REALLY) beautiful interface that forced me to try it. Its much neat and most of the space has been fully utilized and the White-Blue color combination looks great. The columns are easily draggable and then there’s different colors for hashtags and links too that gives a pleasure to read tweets.
You can manually turn Alerts and Sounds ON or OFF for particular tweets like Replies, New Tweets from Friends of even Search Results.
To compare it, i quickly downloaded TweetDeck and Seesmic to see whether they are better or not. TweetDeck is very famous among Tweeps and has a full gang of features with options to connect with other networks such as Facebook. Seesmic too has some great features which I liked like the “Fine tune priorities for auto-refreshing” property is very handy. But the interface of both the clients were not that good.
Maybe its because when you are addicted to MetroTwit’s Interface then Seesmic or TweetDeck will surely turn you off.
Features such as:
- Username and Hashtag Autocomplete
- Infinite Scrolling
- Windows 7 taskbar integration
- Quick-glance notifications
are really great! You can choose what columns you want to view like Replies, DMs, your own tweets and retweets, Search results etc. On top of that, its UI is tweaked to blend with the OS and it looks even better in high DPI.
Still some of the much-needed Features you won’t find in it are:
- URL shortener
- An Image uploader
- User Lists
But according to its team, these features are their top priority so you can expect to see them soon.
If you think I am praising it too much then you are right. I am in love with this App and I recommend you to give it a shot, its really worth it. Download MetroTwit from the Official Site
Just install it, sign into you Twitter Account via Oauth and you are ready to see your stream.
It runs on .Net Framework 4, So if you haven’t already installed it on your PC, then download it here. (Standalone Installer)
By the way, expect few crashes when using it because this Application is very very young and many bugs need to be fixed before it sheds its Beta tag. You can report about bugs or provide feedback here.
