I have personally been using an iPhone as my main smartphone for about 3 years. Although it has always been accompanied by an Android as a secondary phone, if I had to pick just one phone to accompany me, 9 out of 10 times it would be an iPhone. This is because I can rely on the experience and it just works better in synergy with my Mac than an Android does.
However, one thing I have missed on iOS that I greatly enjoy on Android is entertainment on the go. With one of those million, larger than your face, Samsung Galaxy devices out there, you can easily open a dual window and play your sweet Youtube videos while you tweet or Mail away to glory. Running two apps at the same time is something that Android does better than iOS, or at least some Android phones do.
If Youtube is your choice of music on the go and would like to listen to music in the background, then there is a little workaround if you are using a device on iOS 7. We are not sure if this is a bug, but as of posting this post, we are siting on iOS 7.0.4 and this trick works very well, maybe Apple would patch this in future updates, so do mind that. So, here is how you play your Youtube video’s audio in the background and carry on working on one of the several apps available on your iPhone or any other iOS 7 device.
Step 1:
Open Youtube in web browser. You may open the browser in Safari or Chrome or any other browser that you may want.
Step 2:
Search and play the song that you want to listen. We do suggest you pick a long song, we love to listen to Podcasts this way or the State of Trance series so that once you click the play button you can work without much worry.
Step 3:
Once you have selected the song, make sure you play it. Ensuring the playback is on, press the Home button and come to the main Springboard. Obviously the playback will stop.
Step 4:
This is where the trick comes into place. Now that you are on Home, open Control Center by swiping from bottom to up on your iPhone. Once you have the Control Center up, you can press on the Play icon and the Youtube video will play on as a pure music file in the background. This is really easy and useful workaround.
Conclusion
Like I alluded to earlier, there is no guaranteeing if this is cause by a bug, and if Apple would eventually patch it up, but so far it is a very useful trick and extremely easy to implement.
