Snapchat has been a success story because of the unique ability of the image that you send via the application to self destruct. This is really helpful as we are all a lot more wary of sharing images over the web given how many cases of somebody misusing the same arise. But, what if you want send across some textual information and would like the message to self destruct too? A situation where you might have given your ATM Pin or even a password to a friend for the time being via a text message is not the most comfortable one and you would ideally want the information to be deleted immediately after being read.
In case you missed out, here is how you can check if your Snapchat account details were compromised or not
This is where Confide for iPhone steps in. The application is available for free on iPhone and you would require to register a free account. Also, worth noticing is that Confide does not require or ask for your phone number. You have to simply sign up using your E-Mail account. Another catch is that the person whom you wish to send the message must also be registered on Confide and must share the E-mail ID with you.
The App is like dropping an E-Mail
The UI of the application is fairly simple. Once you have the E-Mail ID of the person, you can send them the messages. You get a confirmation receipt when the message has been read by the receiver. You can add in a subject to the message which is visible in the inbox. You click on the message and that is where the content of the message resides. However, the message is not visible until you swipe across the message to read it. You can do this as many times as you want but once you close the message, it self destructs.
Just like Snapchat, you cannot take screenshots without the sender of the message being intimated of the same. Once the message is closed and self destructed only the subject of the message is left over and you can open the same to reply to the sender.
The Service is not as fast as text Message
One thing that genuinely bugged us was the fact that Confide took a proper while to deliver the message. In fact, in some case, it was around 2 minutes delay before the message was delayed. Using a service such as Whatsapp or even iMessage has spoilt us and a service that does not deliver message instantly is a turn off. Even then, the notifications were a wee bit hit and miss. Sometimes, outside the application the notifications were not even visible which was not all that welcome.
There are not too many options under the hood
There are not too many things you can play around with in the application. The application is also not cross platform so unless you and your friends have an iPhone, the application is rendered useless. The orange backgrounds of the application although look good during the daytime, we would have liked, had there been a night theme with darker shades as orange certainly hurts the eye when you are trying to use the app with lights turned out during bed time.

Concluding Thoughts
The application although has a use, is far from being perfect. It is not beyond the realms of imagination that the application would see plenty of improvements as the time goes on. For now though, we felt the application was more a gimmick than anything else. As much as we like the idea, we still feel the app is incomplete and not on the same level as that of the likes of Snapchat which have lead the revolution of self destructing information.
