Antivirus are one of the most important applications everyone must have to keep your PC secure from any types of threat. But you need to update them regularly otherwise they are of no use.
Cloud Antivirus are just like any other antivirus but the scanning of the files are handled on a remote server rather than on your PC. And the best part – the virus definitions and other core files are on the cloud so You Don’t Need to Update Them Software Ever.
There are only few handful of AVs available today over the cloud and here are the best of them:
Kingsoft Free Antivirus provides effective and efficient protection solution with faster operation and lower CPU utilization. Panda Cloud Antivirus is a free version of Panda’s security software.
It has got great reviews by reputed tech blogs and is considered to be a new breed of security software since it relies on cloud, the community, and collective intelligence, rather than just signatures. It requires an internet connection to function, though if internet is unavailable it runs using a cache of well-known threats.
Panda Cloud AV comes in to versions, Free and Pro. The Pro version has some advantage over the Free version such as:
- Behavioral analysis of running processes
- Automatic USB vaccination to protect from autorun malware
- Automatic & transparent upgrades of new engine and program versions
- 24×7 VIP Support
- Plus no Nagging Advertisements.
But still the free version is a worth check out.
Immunet Antivirus is a light AV not known to much people currently but its better than other Cloud AVs. It has a very user friendly User Interface and its not a resource hog like others. It does most of the settings by itself automatically so people who are new to computers need not worry much.
Moreover, If you find any virus that Immunet couldn’t detect then you can help the developers behind Immunet to know about it. Its like Firefox’s Submit a Bug feature, you just to upload that virus to Immunet and the folks can mark it as a virus.
It is a free to use program but if you wish to add extra features such as Offline scanning, advanced virus removal, and email support, you will have to purchase the PLUS version which costs $19.95
All Most of the above antivirus are compatible and can run along with existing antivirus to add an extra layer of protection.
VirusTotal Uploader is NOT an antivirus, rather its an online file scanner with the help of which you can upload any suspicious file to have it scanned using 41 different antivirus software with latest virus definitions.
It is a very light weight tool and Files can be scanned straight from the Right Context menu, simple right click, goto “Send to” and then select VirusTotal to upload the file you wish to scan. At a time, maximum 5 files or 20MB can be uploaded.
One of the best feature of VirusTotal Uploader is that it does a pre-upload check if the file is already present in the VirusTotal database. It calculates a hash of the file before uploading it and checks if it is already in the database. If so, the file doesn’t get uploaded, saving both time and transfer. Still if you want to send it for a re-analysis, you can do it too 🙂
So if you didn’t like the above 3 Cloud AVs, can you always use VirusTotal to get maximum security.
