HTC One (M8) to support LTE bands in India
Thanks to the large number of standards and bands, one raging debate that always seems to surface is whether the device launched globally would support the native LTE bands in a said country. After the launch of the All New HTC One last night, it was a hot topic once again. However, if you are planning to pick the device and are looking forward to using LTE on it, the good news is that, the device supports TDD-LTE in Band 40 which is the 2300 MHz spectrum on which both Airtel and Reliance are offering 4G services.
Nokia will reveal more Lumia devices at the April 2 event in San Francisco
Build Conference in San Francisco, to be held on April 2nd, 2014 has been one of the most keenly awaited event as Microsoft is expected to show off the new Windows Phone 8.1 update. However, if new devices are your thing, then you would want to book the date all the more. Nokia is expected to unveil the Nokia Lumia 530, 630, 635 and 930 at the same event. The 530 would be the successor to the Lumia 525 and would bring Dual SIM capability as well as on screen buttons. The Lumia 630 is expected to pack Snapdragon 400 SoC with 1 GB RAM as well as on screen buttons but no dedicated camera button, while the Lumia 635 is expected to be the dual SIM variant of the Lumia 630. The Lumia 930 is the successor to Lumia 925 and is expected to bring a QuadCore Snapdragon SoC with true HD 5 inch screen.
Facebook Acquires Oculus VR for $2 Billion
Facebook has acquired the VR gaming giants Oculus VR for $2 Billion. This is the second multi billion acquisition as far as Facebook is concerned in the past two months. The Oculus Team would continue at its Head Office in Irvine for now. Mark Zukerberg made clear that he sees great potential in the work that Oculus are doing and is already thinking about extending their works to newer verticals like Media, Communications, Entertainment etc beyond gaming, like the case currently.
HTC One (M8) Google Play Edition Available for Pre-Order
Google announced the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S IV Google Play Editions at Google I/O last year. Since then, devices such as Moto G and Xperia Z Ultra among others have joined the GPE League. The newest entrant to the same is the All -New HTC One which was announced last night. The Play Edition of the device, which is essentially an HTC M8 running stock Android without HTC Sense and all its enhancements is available for pre-order for $699 at the US Google Play Store. The Developer’s version of the device is available too for $649.
Intel Acquires Fitness Watch Maker Basis
2014 was predicted to be the year of wearables and a quarter way into it, it sure is turning out that way. After the new Galaxy Gear devices from Samsung and a preview into the world of Android Wear, looks like Intel could be the next big player to throw their hats into the ring of wearables as they completed the acquisition of Basis, a fitness watch maker. The exact details including the pricing of the acquisition was not announced. Basis has made devices like Basis Band B1 in the past which was one of the better received wearable devices in the last year or so. Intel said the following on the acquisition:
“The acquisition of BASIS Science accelerates Intel’s wearable products focus and extends the company’s capabilities in this area. It also brings access to new technology, and further expands the leadership team with people who have a proven track record of innovation in wearable device technologies for health and fitness applications.”
