Samsung announced the Galaxy Note Pro, a tablet with mammoth 12.2 inch display in January. Yes, you read that right. In an industry where 10 inch tablets, anything apart from iPad are finding their stay a fight too big, the Note Pro never will never break the sales number record. The first reaction when we got the device in hand was that it is mammoth, in fact it is probably one of the heaviest tablets we have used. The tablet weighs 753g, and just to put that into perspective, our iPad Air which by no means is a malnutrition thinny is 469g heavy.
On the first look itself, you can make out that the device is from the Samsung Galaxy Note line of family given the faux leather back, S-Pen inclusion and the metallic trim resembling a book on the sides. Make no mistake, this design perhaps holds better for a tablet than a phone, cause to imagine the same tablet in a metal chassis would in itself be a very heavy thought, puns intended of course.
The design is plain and simple, and something we have already seen from Samsung in the past, so you would not be shocked or surprised at anything. The Note Pro has been in use for about a week now and has not been used with any book cover or scratch guard. The tablet has held up well and there is no noticeable scratches or dents in the moderate usage. Given the white color of the unit, you have to be wary about using it with dirty hands, but apart from that, the back holds well and most of the stuff can be easily wiped away. Given the huge size of the tablet it is obviously not a tablet to lay in bed reading, something we love to do with our tablets. So where would you use it? We found the tablet to be best used in office or for that matter in a media room quickly going through notes before some camera time. We have put together a photo gallery of the tablet here for you:
Now that you have seen the device in pictures, you have a better idea of the hardware. Just taking a tour though, the device dimensions are 295.5 x 204 x 8 mm. The top of the tablet is majorly screen and might we say, a lot of bezel which houses the Home key, a couple of Capacitive buttons at the bottom and Samsung branding as well as the ambient sensor and front facing camera on top.
The right flank of the device has the USB 3.0 Micro USB port, speaker grille, S-Pen and the doors to Micro SIM card and Micro SD slot. The left side features the second speaker grille for a surround sound experience and a 3.5mm headset jack. The back of the device only has the 8 MP shooter with an LED Flash and Samsung branding. The top of the device has the infrared port, main microphone, volume rocker and the power button. The bottom of the device is absolutely plain. The tablet is powered by an Exynos 5420 True Octa Core SoC with Quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU. Apart from white, the tablet is also available in black color.
We have plenty of coverage coming up of the Galaxy Note Pro, so stay tuned with us for that.
