Oh the irony, Samsung is working is working on a premium, metallic version of the Galaxy S5 while HTC is set to offer the highly appreciated HTC M8 in a plastic clad body. Supreme build quality and the unique metallic unibody construction has been the USP of HTC and one of the differentiating features that has seen the company earn accolades from a vast share of the tech crowd.
However, it looks like for sake of market volumes, HTC is set to offer the HTC M8 in a plastic body, much like the way Apple did with the iPhone 5c. However, the iPhone 5c was not the runaway success that most thought it would be thanks to absorbent pricing, we hope HTC has learnt the lesson from that. The device will apparently be called the HTC M8 Ace and is actually the exact red variant that was leaked out by @Evleaks sometime ago.
According to a report in Engadget, the device will have the same specs including the 5 inch display, Snapdragon 801 SoC and 32 GB of internal space. The device is expected to be priced a lot more competitively as compared to the HTC One (M8) and HTC may well do away with the dual camera setup from the M8 to help them reduce the pricing on the Ace. Not just the HTC One Ace, HTC is also reportedly working on a mini variant of the M8 which would pack a 4.5 inch HD display, Snapdragon 400 SoC and 1 GB of RAM which is expected to be released later this year.
