Google Glass is one of the ultimate nerdy dream of somebody who is heads to toe into the world of gadgets. The dream can now be a reality, but a rather expensive reality. After months of testing Google Glass with Explorers and developers, looks like Google is set to make the wearable device available to everyone, giving you a free licence to be a ‘glasswhore’ as long as you can afford it.
The device is available to anybody who is 18+ and living in the United States and more than anything else, has $1500 in spare. The move comes just a week after Google had made the device available to everyone for a day and then pulled it back. But this time, it looks like for real, you can pick the Google Glass even if you are not enrolled in the Explorer Programme. Looks like, Google has finally decided, it is time for the public to use the device and give their inputs about what works and what does not for them.
Here is the statement from Google about the move:
Last week we told you we’d be trying out new ways to find Explorers. Well, we weren’t kidding. We learned a lot when we opened our site a few weeks ago, so we’ve decided to move to a more open beta. We’re still in the Explorer Program while we continue to improve our hardware and software, but starting today anyone in the US can buy the Glass Explorer Edition, as long as we have it on hand:google.com/glass
We’re ready to keep meeting new Explorers, and we can’t wait to hear all your experiences and feedback to continue to make Glass even better, ahead of our wider consumer release
It is interesting that Google specified that the device is very much in Open Beta and this is not the final version of things and both the software and hardware could be further improved. More than that we hope the price would be brought down too when the final versions are made available ’cause no way would the $1500 price tag be very attractive to the masses.
Would you be picking up the Google Glass now that it is open to everyone? Let us know in the section below.
