Launched barely a month ago for Rs 51,500, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has received a major price cut and the black variant of the device can be picked for exactly Rs 39,999 from Amazon India. This means a price cut of about Rs 11,500 which is enormous given the device was released hardly a month ago. Samsung has been notorious for slashing the pricing on their devices to boost the sales in the past, but you really wonder if the sales of the S5 have been poor enough to prompt this sort of a cut.
You could argue that Amazon being backed by investors is able to offer the device for really low price to make the offering attractive, hence we did take to the market to get feel of the street price. We found out that it is not scarce to see the device available in Rs 42,000 to Rs 43,500 range. Even at places like Flipkart the device is available just short of Rs 41,000 for the white as well as black variants. It is worth noting though that on Samsung India’s official page, the device still sells for a best buy of Rs 51,000.
At just Rs 40,000, there is no denying that the Galaxy S5 is the most affordable flagship of the year 2014 as the M8, Z2 are at least 8-10K well above it and you would expect the likes of the LG G3 and the iPhone 6 to be beyond the Rs 40K mark too. We reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S5 last month and were largely impressed with the device except for few specific places and the price it is available at, would without a doubt make it a fine pick.
