Despite being certified with an IP 67 Rating making the Samsung Galaxy S5 water and dustproof, the Galaxy S5 does not give you an impression of surviving too many wild days and nights. It has been one of the worst kept secrets that Samsung has been working on a variant of the S5 that would perhaps even be able to take a bullet for its lover, maybe even more. The Galaxy S5 Active is supposed to be the successor to the Galaxy S4 Active which many believed was overall a better designed smartphone than the popular Galaxy S4. Rugged, strong and capable of withstanding agents of destruction, the Galaxy S4 Active despite strong credentials was not really a success story primarily due to scant market availability.
It is next to impossible to say whether the S5 Active would be in anyway a story different, given there is no news on when will the device be in the market or for that matter, in how many markets will Samsung actually bring one in. Though what we do have is a leaked image of the device over from Pocketnow.
The device is very much designed like the S4 Active and brings three hardware buttons unlike the single Home button on the Galaxy S5. The frame of the device obviously looks a little chunkier and meatier than the S5 which is an all plastic device. The GS5 Active will bring the Heart Rate Monitor that has invited mixed reactions from the audience, though the fingerprint scanner seems to have gone away for good. There also seems to be a rubberized grip around the device making it a grippy surface. There is no word on the specs of the device but with a side by side image with the GS 5, we guess the screen on the Active variant is slightly larger.
A video on Youtube has been published of the claimed Galaxy S5 Active for AT&T specifically, you can check that out below:
