Wireless Charging is the new trend in the world of gadgets and technology. While it is still not the most convenient way of charging as you still have to dock your phone on top of a wireless charger, it does help you get away from the clutter of having to connect a wire, every time you wish to charge your mobile device. Several smartphones today like the Nexus 5 or the recently announced LG G3 come with wireless charging capabilities out of the box, while on the others, the same can be added via an external jacket, like on the Samsung Galaxy S5. Either way, wireless charging is a fairly expensive way of charging your device, so you have to be absolutely sure when you pick a wireless charging station as they do not come cheap.
To help you make an informed choice, here are the four wireless charging stations that we recommend. Remember all of these stations use the Qi wireless standard. But before we get into listing these chargers, lets quickly look at how wireless charging works.
What is wireless charging and how does it work?
Wireless charging or inductive charging works on the principle of Electromagnetic field which transfers energy between bodies. Basically, there is an induction coil that is placed within the charger that produces this Electromagnetic field. Through contact with the secondary device, this field is transferred to the device which has a secondary induction coil to transform the energy into electric current which in turn allows you to charge the battery of the secondary device, in our case, a smartphone. This is the reason why placing your smartphone on the wireless charging station is absolutely vital. However, lower efficiency, slower charging and wasted energy are some of the main drawbacks that the current wireless charging solutions are fighting.
Top Four Wireless Chargers
Nillkin MC002 Portable Qi Charger
Nillkin is one of the trusted accessory manufacturers out there. It is especially famous for its tempered glass shield protectors for smartphones that help in keeping the screen from shattering on your smartphone. The Nillkin Magic Disk charger is another sweet offering from the company and it is one of the most affordable wireless chargers that you can pick. It is also one of the less bulky options out there and is barely 9 mm in thickness and weighs 40 grams. The MC002 claims to have an efficiency of about 70% and is compatible with just about every smartphone that supports wireless charging.
While there are obviously several places you can pick the charger in India, we found one on E-Bay here.
Nexus 4 Wireless charging Dock
The Nexus 4 wireless dock for wireless charging is perhaps the most eye-catching of any wireless charging solutions out there. The angled surface of the charger means you can always glance at the display of your device to see the incoming notifications without having to pick the device. It is pretty heavy at about 130 gram but if you are going just by the looks, you will really appreciate the fine build of the charger. It is also a pretty expensive pickup at about Rs 7,000 and currently supports the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7. So, if you have either of the two devices, go ahead and pick the Nexus 4 wireless dock.

Nokia DT-900 Wireless Charging Dock
If you bought the Nokia Lumia 920 in the right nick of time, chances are you would have picked this Qi Wireless charger for free. If not, you can still pick one up from either a Nokia outlet or online. The DT-900 is perhaps the best known wireless charging dock out there. We personally used this one with our now ex-Nexus 5 and it worked really well, though the charging was painfully slow. We ended up going back to the wall charger for quick charging and only used this as a pillow side solution for bedtime reading and charging. Nevertheless, you can pick the charger in several colors including black, yellow, red and white, so if colors are your thing, then the DT-900 would surely interest you.

Nokia Fatboy DT-901 Charging Pillow
Weighing 112 g, the Fatboy Pillow is a fairly chunky and a heavy pillow. But if you want something a bit more fancy and colorful and do not mind the extra space a wireless charger may take, the Fatboy DT-901 is another offering from Nokia. Like the DT-900, the Fatboy 901 is available in colors like cyan, yellow, red, green etc. It has a 2.5 mm charging connector and follows the Qi standard. The DT-901 is more about its looks than substance and if you are willing to cough up the extra money for it, then it is an alternative to a more subtle DT-900.
