There is no word like impossible in the dictionary that rules over in the space of cydia tweaks. While all tweaks may not drastically change the looks of your iOS running device and suddenly make them as customizable as your Android phones, they for sure add subtle changes to the device that in the grand scheme of things make your iOS running devices a bit more functional.
When iOS 7 was released with all its visual upliftments, one that really divided opinions was the keyboard. Apple made the new keyboard translucent and the fonts were made visibly thinner. While this looked really good, there were some very strange things that happened, especially the whole fiasco with the shift key and how the keyboard indicated if we were going to type in uppercase or lowercase. If you were working on a light background document with black text, the translucent keyboard skin was also a bit of an annoyance. As a result, we were beginning to miss the solid old bold keyboard from iOS 6. While it may not have been the most beautiful to look at, we are still fans of the iOS 6 keyboard and its functionality.
Tweak and what it does
Developed by Ryan Petrich of the Jailbreak community, Vintage Keys is an interesting tweak that brings back the good old look of your old keyboard on devices running iOS 7. The keyboard on iOS 6 was pretty much exactly how it was since the inception of the very first iPhone and that is what the tweak brings back. There is no premium feature nor are there too many personalizations options, but that is exactly why the tweak is attractive. There is no learning curve involved and there are no unnecessary settings or theming or flamboyant skinning involved here. Though you can pick from various font options from preferences. You will obviously need to be on a jailbroken device with Cydia installed on it to do the process.
Once you have Cydia installed, you must add the required repository before searching for Vintage Keys. To do this, add the URL, ‘rpetri.ch/repo/ ‘ without the quotes to your existing Cydia Repos. Once you have done the adding bit, allow Cydia to refresh and go on to search for ‘Vintage Keys’. Install the Tweak and then allow the springboard to refresh. In case you wish to get back your iOS 7 keyboard, all you need to is go back to Cydia and uninstall this tweak.
