We picked up the HTC M8 recently as a device that we plan to use for a foreseeable future. After enjoying the M7, the M8 was not a necessary upgrade, but the charm of a new metallic device with all the latest specifications mash ups included was too much to let pass. We will take all the time in the world to come up with the review of the device since it is here to stay and we want to cover the experience of using the device over time unlike most of the devices that are tested in about a limited 2 weeks period.
The HTC M8 is a gorgeous device, there is nobody who can deny that. In fact, you can spend a good few minutes just admiring the smooth curves that the smartphone has. However, the M8 is known to have a lens on the rear camera that tends to scratch very easily. Also the HTC branding on the back has reportedly come off in few cases as reported. Add in that, chamfers are always prone to the odd scratch when the phone is kept in the pocket, it is a good idea to invest in a good cover for your HTC M8. So, as we went looking for getting a good case, these are some of the best ones that we could find. We will also add in a link from where you can purchase the device. Here are the five HTC M8 cases that you must consider picking after you have brought the new device.
HTC Dot View Case
The HTC Dot view case was made available by HTC when they announced the phone. It is one of the most sought after HTC M8 cases. The cover is not available everywhere in India and you really have to pick a rather well-known retailer to find the case. The case is basically a flip case but has a perforated front that allows you to catch a glimpse of important information such as weather and other notifications without opening the case. The case has a magnetic component that turns the display on or off based on if you open the flip or close it. Dot view cover is available in several colours including orange, blue and grey for about Rs 2,600 in most shops. One of the biggest issues we had with the case was that it is very uncomfortable when you want to click a picture like any other flip case. Also the front flip is pretty rigid, so putting it behind the curved back when you want to use the phone is just odd. Add in that the case does not protect the chamfers of the device, and you know that the dot view case is more for adding that killer look to your phone than offer substantial protection.
Spigen Ultra Hybrid Clear Case
If you own the HTC One M8, one fat reason for picking up the phone was the killer looks of the device. Just like an iPhone, a HTC One is made to be flaunted. Putting a case that covers that metallic shiny body is a total, no. This is where the Ultra Hybrid Series of cases from Spigen come in real handy. The case provides tremendous protection for the phone as it covers all the sides of your device and the back is protected by a transparent polycarbonate material in the case. Anti Scratch coating on the back of the case ensures that the case, nor the phone picks up any scratches. The case also makes sure your phone is kept light and slim and no unnecessary weight is added.
If plastic is not your thing and you would like to cover your phone with something that feels better and more premium while offering a lot more protection, the Slim Armor is what you should be after. Our favourite case in the series, we have been using the Slim Armors on our iPhone 5s, Nexus 5 and the Galaxy S5 and we love it. The case snugly wraps around the phone without any creeks. The dual tone nature of the colour adds a degree of visual attractiveness too. The gun-metal version of the slim armor case goes really well with the gun-metal grey variant of the phone. The only complain we have with the case is that it can be a bit slippery if you are not very carefully handling it.
Double Dip for HTC One M8
HTC introduced the double dip case for the HTC M7 and since then it has become a very popular accessory. The double dip is available for HTC M8 too. The case is very similar to the Slim Armour case in terms that it brings a two/ three tone design, but that is where the similarity ends. The double dip case is made entirely out of plastic and as a result offers a bit better gripping ability. Also the plastic is prone to get dirty from the edges and we noticed on the red and grey double dip of our M7 that keeping the phone in our denims often and attending classes lead to a lot of blue colour from denims getting rubbed on the case edges. As a result, the case looked really shoddy in a matter of just a couple of months. So, be mindful of this fact when you pick the double dip case. It does offer great protection to your phone as it covers all the sides and is really easy to apply too.
Cruzerlite HTC M8 Bugdroid Case
If you are an Android fan, you will love the Bugdroid case from Cuzerlite. It is a light TPU case that has a sweet Android with some wired connections carved on the back of the cover. The case is extremely light weight like most TPU cases and is available in several colours such as red, black, blue etc. The cover offers decent protection as it covers all the sides of your phone and is pretty flexible too. It is easy to apply and remove the case. The only downside of the case is that it lets the camera lens be exposed more than you would like and does not even provide sufficient clearance from the ground when the phone is kept back facing down. Other than that, it adds literally no weight to your device and the bright versions of the case definitely adds that oomph factor to your phone.
So, those were our top five picks when it comes to HTC M8 cases. Which one is your favourite? Or did you pick a case that is different from the ones we have listed? Let us know in the section below.
