Gionee has been making waves in the Indian market by aggressively marketing their devices. In a market where the preconceived notions against major Chinese brands are strong, Gionee is on a surge to somehow try and shed the label and stand out against a host of players that are present. They recently announced the Elife S5.5 which is a premium budget smartphone, that the company claims is the slimmest smartphone in the world at 5.55 mm. The device was launched in India in a grand event hosted in Goa and we brought the initial impressions of the device here. Since then, the device has gone on sale last month and we recently received a unit for review. The Gionee S5.5 is available for about Rs 21,000 in the market and is quite a looker thanks to its metallic and glass construction.
This was the perfect opportunity for us to share with you how the device looks from the different angles and try and illustrate just how thin the phone actually is. We have linked the entire photo gallery of the device for you to look at at the end of the post from all the possible sides. We also went on to compare the device to three phones in terms of thickness. These devices were: The HTC One M8, Nexus 5 and the previous flagship from Gionee, the Elife E7.
Recapping the specifications of the Gionee Elife S5.5: the device has a 5 inch display with True HD 1020P resolution giving it a PPI of 441. The engine room of the phone sees the Mediatek 6592 Octa Core SOC alongside 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. There is no expansion via Micro SD slot here. The phone supports a single micro sim with 3G. The rear camera is a 13 MP shooter with LED flash while the front facing camera is a 5 MP snapper. The phone weighs 130 grams and is powered by a non removable 2300 mAh battery.
