The iPhone 6 may still be a few months away but the rumors around it do not seem to be slowing down one bit. The next iPhone is expected to sport a bigger 4.3 inch display which will be covered by Sapphire for enhanced protection and have an all metallic body, very similar to the current iPod Touch generation. The next iPhone would also come with a thinner profile and more rounded edges. While, we have all seen the dummy of the new iPhone 6 in several pictures, it is interesting to see how the iPhone compares to the other set of iPhones. This not only gives us a comparison, but also a bit of perspective that how far we have come in the world of personal technology since the days of the very first iPhone.
Sonny Dickson has uploaded a very detailed gallery on his website, to give us a quick look at how the next iPhone will stack up against every iPhone released yet. No doubt Apple is going to be calling the iPhone 6 the best iPhone ever and one that will be a game changer both in terms of its features and looks. Let’s take a look at some of the images taken by Sonny.
The back of the device
The back of the new iPhone is clearly more metallic than the current iPhone. Gone are the glass strips from the top and the edges are definitely more rounded. The edges may actually be an important design decision to help with, making the grip of the of the device in one hand more comfortable. Also it is worth noting that the dual LED flash has been replaced by a single LED flash. However, since this is a dummy, we are not entirely sure how much to trust it.
Comparison with the iPhone 4 and 5s
It is clear from the image above that the iPhone 6 is much bigger in size when compared to the iPhone 5s and iPhone 4. What is also clear is that the device is much more curved from the edges.
Comparison with the HTC M8
The iPhone 6 bears a lot of resemblance to the HTC One M8, which is widely considered to be the very best Android phone out there. The M8 has about 90% Aluminum body, so it would be interesting to see the composition stats for the iPhone 6. Also, the rubberised contacts on the two devices are in similar areas to facilitate radio signals. You definitely would expect an Apple logo and FCC information on the back of the real iPhone 6.
Comparison with the iPod Touch
The iPhone 6 is said to have taken inspiration from the iPod Touch. It is very clearly illustrated in this side by side comparison. While the iPhone 6 is larger in size, the body profile looks identical and so does the camera lens. Obviously, there are no rubberized contacts as the iPod Touch has no requirement for a cellular reception.
Comparison with all the iPhones released
In the side by side and stacked comparison of the iPhone 6 with every other iPhone, you can clearly see, how the latest iPhone promises to be thinner and bigger than any released yet. The volume and the mute switch on the iPhone 6 will continue to live on the left side of the device while the bottom of the phone will have the same lightening connector as the iPhone 5/5s.
Comparison with the iPhone 5s
The comparison shots of the iPhone 6 with iPhone 5s are really interesting. Apart from the obvious profile changes, there are a few interesting things to observe. The first being that the volume keys have been made rectangular from circular, the second one being that the speaker on the iPhone 6 has larger holes but a single line of grille, the third observation is that the ring on Touch ID on the iPhone 6 looks a little less shiny, indicating that Apple may have worked on the sensors in the ring to ensure a better responsiveness.
So, those were some of the interesting shots, comparing the iPhone 6 with the other devices and giving us a sneak peek of what may just be cooking in the assembly labs of Apple. However, it must be kept in mind, the device shown in the above shots is a dummy and there is no confirmation on how accurate the design is. There is obviously a fat chance that Apple may still decide to change things around and surprise us.
