We are sure you remember the olden days, where if you switched to a new phone, all you had to do was use Bluetooth on both the devices and quickly transfer all the content from your old device. This was a quick and convenient process about five to six years ago. However, since then, the phones have progressed and have become the hub of our personal entertainment housing music, apps, games and so much more. Obviously transferring content via bluetooth is no more a viable option. While some of the phones like Motorola devices, do come with a content transferring software, there hasn’t been a universally adopted tool yet.
Wondershare is a company that provides a ton of software solutions for problems like one stated above. A tool from them called MobileTrans for Mac allows you to transfer data from one smartphone to the other by connecting them to the same Mac computer. The entire process is extremely easy and simple to perform, though the transfer speed depends completely on the USB ports and cables you use. To transfer data from one phone to the other, follow the steps below.
Go ahead and download the Wondershare Mobile Trans for Mac from the website right here and install it on your Mac hard drive.
Run the application for the first time and enter in your registration key and the E-Mail ID you have used to buy the app. Once you have done that, you will be taken to a screen like above giving you the indication to connect the phones.
Connect the phones and select which one will act as the source and destination. Make sure, if you are using an Android phone that you have the USB Debugging on. The steps to do the same are clearly shown in the screenshot above.
After you have connected the phones, allow the software to recognize the device. We are not sure why the app pulled the image of M7 despite recognizing our HTC M8 correctly, but that was a minor glitch.
Once you have the phones correctly connected, select the data that you wish to copy. You can select from songs, videos, contacts, text messages, even apps in case you use phones running the same OS. Click on Start Copy once you are set. This transfer will take time depending upon the data that you have selected to transfer.
Our take on the app
It is fairly simple to transfer the data from one phone to another, though the transfer speeds are not as swift as we would have liked. The good thing though, is that the application supports pretty much every Android smartphone starting from Eclair 2.1 to KitKat 4.4. All the iPhones are supported too. The application is fairly light on the memory of your computer too and barely uses any resources. It takes about 105 MB of space on your HDD. The UI of the app is really simple too and the app does what it needs to very well.
However, on the flipside, you do miss more detailed features at times. For example, what if you only wish to transfer a few songs or images or even videos from one phone to the other? This is currently not possible with the application as you have to transfer all the content at one go. There was also no indication of ETA which was kind of annoying, though you do have a transfer status bar. There is also no option to pause the transfer in case you wish to disconnect the phone and take a phone call.
Other than these minor annoyances we really liked the application and can see the utility of it, especially as we need to transfer data often between devices. There were no annoying connection issues and the app was able to detect the devices too pretty fast which was a positive.
The application is available to be bought for $19.99 from the Wondershare website right here. The same tool for Windows OS is available too.
