Facebook unveils new Social Messaging System – “Facebook Email”

Facebook Messages

The long awaited Facebook Messaging has arrived. This new and advanced system features Seamless Messaging, Conversation History and Social History and lets you communicate with your friends using IM, SMS and email.

This system was earlier dubbed as Project Titan but this is not any “Gmail Killer” as it was always rumored but actually a better way to stay connected with your friends. However this is currently invitation based. So you’ll be needing to request one at the official site.

Features

Facebook Email/Messaging Features

Seamless Messaging

You decide how you want to talk to your friends: via SMS, chat, email or Messages. They will receive your message through whatever medium or device is convenient for them, and you can both have a conversation in real time.

Facebook Email - Seamless Messaging

An @facebook.com email address will also be provided to every person on Facebook so that they can share with friends over email, whether they’re on Facebook or not. It willalso support IMAP in future.

Your mail id will look something like this: your-facebook-username@facebook.com

Conversation History

Messages is built for communicating with your friends, so it made sense to organize primarily around people. All of your messages with someone will be together in one place, whether they are sent over chat, email or SMS. You can see everything you’ve discussed with each friend as a single conversation.

The Social Inbox

With new Messages, your Inbox will only contain messages from your friends and their friends. All other messages will go into an Other folder where you can look at them separately and even move it easily into the Inbox. Spam messages will be discarded automatically.

You can also change your account settings to be even more limited and bounce any emails that aren’t exclusively from friends.
