While Android Wear may not have progressed as much as we wanted, given it has been a while since the platform was introduced, it remains one of the only viable options when it comes to wearables today. We do like Pebble and what it offers, but the higher res and colored display of the Android Wear albeit with a much inferior battery life wins it for us. The recent Android Wear update, which brought the platform to Android Lollipop has already introduced some much-needed improvements, such as the all new Theatre Mode, Battery Mapping on the smartphone as well as the Sunlight Readability Mode.
However, with this update, another strange thing that we started noticing, is that instead of the status bar showing the notification of just Connected when the Android Wear was connected, it started reading Running Sync Loop. We tested this out with our HTC M8 paired with the LG G Watch and at first it kind of worried us. The reason for the same was that we feared, just like any loop will affect the battery life of the device and as any loop running continuously would generally do.
But Worry Not
A bit of research showed up that the issue was not due to the recent Lollipop update on the LG G Watch, but due to the recent update of the Play Service which took the version to 6.5 recently. It was post this update that the message changed from Connected to Connected, Sync Loop Running. However, strangely, we did not notice any major battery drain either on the phone nor on the smart watch. The HTC M8 was alive for solid 30 hours while the G Watch too lived its life and it was clear that the battery was unaffected.
So what is this error and how to get rid?
Firstly, there is nothing unusual about your device if you see this message. The only reason you see the message is because you have Developer Options enabled, and as a result, the notification is giving you more in-depth information, for you to make sense. You can simply, go to the Developer Options of your device, disable it, pair your watch again and you will see only the Connected message in the Notification bar. If you do that though, a few other features such as reporting wearable bug or seeing the bug report are automatically disabled too.
However, what you can be sure of is that the two messages, be it plain Connected or Connected, Sync Loop Running mean exactly the same thing and it is only the amount of information that the device and app are throwing at you based on the role you have selected for yourself.
