We have all been there. Yes, you may blame Whatsapp for a lot of wrongs that may have transpired in your personal life, but fact is, it has brought us closer to the people than we ever have been at least in the digital space. The sad part of this has been we have started living our lives in anticipation, anticipation of that important Whatsapp message, or in the anticipation, when that special person will read our message and respond to it. We have all experienced that racing heartbeat when someone we are chatting up comes online as we impatiently wait to hear what they have to say, and this involves a lot of opening of Whatsapp and checking whether the contact has appeared online or not.
While psychiatrists may say this is some sort of OCD, we totally understand why you feel this way, that is why to take away the trouble of continuously checking out the application for seeing whether the person is online, we have found an easier solution for you. The solution is in the form of a Cydia Tweak which basically notifies you the moment your selected contact comes online, goes offline, is typing a message based on your settings. Obviously, this would mean a real cluttered notification center, but you would be surprised to know how many of us would actually sign up for something like this.
You would need to install OnlineNotify tweak from the BigBoss repo which will cost you $1.99 from the Cydia Store. You will need to make sure that you allow Whatsapp to be running in the background so that the tweak can do its job, and as an addition would need the Insomnia package, to ensure that the application is not killed in the background when the device is locked for large periods as WiFi is automatically regulated.
The tweak basically lets you do two things, one it simply tells you when the contact you have selected, (could be multiple too) comes online and when he is typing a message to you. You also get a switch for the Notifications in the tweak, using which you can easily turn the notifications from the tweak on or off. Currently, there is no notification option for when the message has been delivered or read, though, that is something that Whatsapp provides by default, so that is not much of a pain point.
As a prerequisite, you would obviously need a jailbroken iPhone running Cydia to be able to download the tweak and check out the awesomeness that is OnlineNotify.
