If you have just switched from a Windows machine to a Mac or have been using for a Mac for a while, there is always a scope for you to know more about the OS and make a better use of the shortcuts in order to save precious time. With Yosemite coming along, there have been several new interesting things that have been added to your Mac, which we have only recently discovered. Since, we were pretty kicked about discovering these shortcuts or tricks, we thought it would only be fair towards our readers, if we shared them with you.
So, here are five neat tips or shortcuts that maybe you did not know about a Mac and would help you to save much needed time.
1) Type Emojis on your Mac
Emojis have become an essential part of the way we converse with our friends, relatives and everyone else. However, what if you want to input an Emoji say in a comment on a web page or even on a third party chat app, that is where the struggle begins. Bringing up Emojis is easier than ever now, all you need to do is press ctrl+⌘+space and then pick the emoji that you wish for and paste it in the window.
2) Voice dictate your notes to the Mac
Are you sick of typing and you live alone where nobody would find you retarded if you speak to your Mac? If both the answers are yes, you can now dictate to your Mac which will convert your voice to text in the text field selected so you do not have to use your fingers. To do this, you will need to simply press the Fn key twice to begin dictation and press the key once again, when you are done and need to just input the text. Do note, that when you use the feature for the first time, you will have to go through the settings of dictation.
3) Preview the files before you open it
It must have happened with you, where you have by mistake opened a file that you did not want to, and then it took forever for the program to load and quit, wasting a lot of time. This is very common, especially with keynote or PSD files. So, before you decide to run the program just to preview the file, you can select the file name and hit the Space key to open the preview of the file for you to check out.
4) Bring up spotlight search anywhere
Apple has seriously upped the game as far as searching the files goes. If you are stuck somewhere and would like to immediately look up for an app, file or even a contact, you can simply punch in Cmd+ Space which would bring up the spotlight search from where you can go ahead and open the files or apps.
5) Share your Screen Using iMessage
It is extremely easy for you to share your screen with your friends using iMessage. Anybody using an iOS or OSX device will be able to see your desktop screen if you use this method. To share your screen, simply select the chat window of the friend with whom you would like to share the screen with, click on details and select the first option which is that of sharing the screen. Once you do that, all your actions will be mirrored in real-time.
