One of the features that Apple very enthusiastically announced at the WWDC 2015 was the Power Saver mode for their devices on iOS 9. The feature is unlike any that we have seen, say on the likes of Samsung Galaxy S6 or even the Gionee Elife S7, which basically turns the phone into a dumb phone with black and white display. The way Apple has done it is that when you implement the ‘Low Power Mode’ it turns down the CPU clock speed, turns off background processes, shuts the unnecessary wireless connectivities and reduced motions on home screen to ensure your device lasts longer on the charge.
However, if you do not have iOS 9 and would like to already have the feature on your iPhone or iPad running then there is an interesting tweak that you can download in order to use the feature. For this, you need to follow the steps below:
Step 1: Go ahead and fire up Cydia on your iPhone or the iPad that you are using.
Step 2: Go into Sources and add the Elijahandandrew resource by entering the URL ‘http://elijahandandrew.com/repo/’
Step 3: Once you have added the repo, you will need to search for the tweak called ‘Power Saver Mode’.
Step 4: The tweak will add a toggle inside the Battery Usage under Settings and enabling it will enable the Power Saving Mode.
Once you enable the mode, you will see that the battery color on the device changes to yellow which is exactly how it happens on iOS 9. The mode is automatically disabled, when you connect your device to any power source. While the tweak does not affect your CPU clock speed, it does help save the power up by disabling background refresh, location services as well as Reduce Motion settings. While this is definitely not as robust as anything that iOS 9 is offering, it is a good substitute to have if you are not hooking up with iOS 9 immediately.
Do let us know what you think about your experience with the tweak.
