The next fad in the tech world seems to be that of curved displays. We saw it with the Galaxy Note Edge and that was promptly followed by the Galaxy S6 Edge and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ recently. It is interesting that no other OEM has moved to produce a device with a curved display yet and Samsung remains the only player in that space. It is true that none of the Samsung devices with curved display have really added much value to the curved display since the very first of them came out, yet the potential one feels for the same are huge. It is easy to blame the developer community for not coming up with enough solutions, but the lukewarm response thanks to the expensive devices due to the curved display means there is a real opportunity in the space of phones with curved display.
Xiaomi seems to be the one interested in en-cashing this opportunity as rumors are afloat that they are set to bring a smartphone with a curved display. The device is expected to be called the Mi Edge and according to the report from Mobile Dad in China, will be launched in October for a price of $391. This would put the device in the region of about Rs 25,000 making it easily the cheapest smartphone with a curved display.
In terms of specifications, the phone will pack a 5.2 inch Quad HD display with 1440 pixels resolution giving it a PPI of 565. The phone will be powered by Snapdragon 808, so far which has been used only in LG G4 when it comes to commercial devices. the phone will pack either 3 or 4 GB of RAM and come with 16 MP rear camera. Added to the curved display, the phone will come with a finger print scanner and have a metallic chassis. Seeing the image of the device that is floating around, we would not hold our breaths for the phone given that the image shows on screen buttons that are already alien and some. It also seems to have apps on the curved edge display which looks a little awkward to be honest.
