We recently reviewed the Nexus 5X on our site and were full of praise for one aspect of the device. While the phone always seems to come second best behind its elder sibling, Nexus 6P, when it came to the real battle like that of performance or battery life, one place where the device matched the Nexus 6P toe to toe was in the department of the fingerprint scanner.
Called the Nexus Imprint, both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are capable of giving a run for the money to the more popular iPhone 6s and 6s Plus when it comes to the pure speed when unlocking using fingerprints. The difference may well be in the range of a few microseconds, but it being there clearly shows that Google and its OEM partners have absolutely nailed this one.
So, if you have the Nexus 5X or the Nexus 6P, there is absolutely no way that you should be not using the Nexus Imprint. While you do get an option of setting up the Nexus Imprint, the first time you turn on either of the devices, but it is not beyond the realms of possibility that you may have skipped the registration right then and there. If you did, here is how you can simply go ahead and setup Nexus Imprint again. Also, this Tutorial will hold true if you want to add more fingers to the list that is recognised by Nexus Imprint.
1) On your Nexus smartphone, go ahead and click on the Settings icon in the app drawer.
2) In the third pane, under Personal, you will find the option of Security. Go ahead and click on that.
3) Click on Nexus Imprint option that you see here.
4) If you are setting up Nexus Imprint for the first time, you will be required to set up or confirm an alternative lock, which could be pattern or pin code. If you have that setup and confirmed, simply slick on ‘+Add fingerprint’ option which would take you to the window that would allow you to scan your finger. Simply place your finger and move it around on the scanner properly for it to register.
It takes a total of fewer than 20 seconds to get a new finger enrolled to unlock your phone using Nexus Imprint. While we performed these steps on the Nexus 5X, they are exactly the same for the Nexus 6P too, so go ahead and enjoy the Nexus Imprint on your new Nexus devices.
