Every year, there is a brand that comes and surprises us. A couple of years, OnePlus developed a cult following, while the year ago, brands like Xiaomi, Lenovo and Yu rolled off the tongues of people. In the recent past several brands like Asus, Motorola and even LG have kind of surprised us with their sudden rise in popularity.
Although well known before, have really taken the limelight and made their way to being the heavyweights in a world dominated by Samsung and Apple. So in 2016, who are the players that we have our attention on, the not so well known guys, who would perhaps make the big impact? Here is the list:
Vivo came up with several interesting products including the Vivo X5Pro and Vivo V1, but despite high-quality products, Vivo has not really hit that perfect chord with the customers. In 2016, Vivo would be sponsoring IPL and it being the biggest sporting event and high ATL and BTL spends, you can expect the awareness around Vivo products to reach an all-time high in 2016. This definitely means that there will be a focus on their products and every launch will be much more in the limelight than it has been so far. With launches like Vivo X6 in the pipeline upcoming, you would think that if Vivo needs to breakthrough, then this would be the year for them to do so.
Huawei was perhaps the mobile brand which was most in the limelight in the last month of 2015, thanks to the Nexus 6P and the success enjoyed by the phone. In 2016, we expect the limelight to be focussed on Huawei, scrutinizing everything they do closely. Their upcoming product range, the likes of Huawei Mate 8 and Honor 5X are really interesting phones and show a lot of promise. With Google and Huawei sharing marketing spends, and we all know how deep the pockets of Google are, you would expect that Huawei would be in your face, more often than not. Oh and they are already doing some interesting sponsorship work with the likes of Arsenal FC and Royal Challengers Bangalore, so there is a fair visibility there already.
A surprise third choice, but we really fell in love with the Coolpad Note 3 device that we checked out last year. With all the confusion about Coolpad and Dazen, finally put to rest, you expect it would be a name that people would finally start appreciating in 2016. Their upcoming products like the Coolpad Note 4 and, at least, a couple more will be under the microscope when they come out. Also, unlike Huawei and Vivo, Coolpad is expected to largely limit itself in the budget and lower budget tier and bring top of the line specifications for the same. While we haven’t seen a lot of marketing efforts from Coolpad so far, other than their tie-up with Amazon for being exclusively available online, but with them announcing India to be a key market, that should change.
So, those were the three brands we feel have the maximum potential to rise and shine this year. Whether it will happen or not, is anybody’s guess given how unpredictable the market is, but the chances of above three, in our opinion are the best. Which of the listed brands is your favorite?
