On Friday, Chinese mobile maker, OnePlus, launched their latest device the OnePlus 3T in India. Although not a successor to the OnePlus 3 version, equipped with a comparatively powerful processor (Snapdragon 821) a bigger battery, and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, the OnePlus 3T is a considerable upgrade on the OnePlus 3 version.
As for the price, the OnePlus 3T starts from INR 29,999 and goes up to INR 34,999 depending on which variant you prefer.
Goodbye OnePlus 3
With the release of the OnePlus 3T, the company had also announced that it would discontinue the previously launched OnePlus 3 version. It’s been only five months since the OnePlus 3 version launched, and answering concerns about the decision to replace the version, Vikas Agarwal, the GM of OnePlus India had this to say,
“Our philosophy is to benchmark our devices with the best possible product available in the market. And then set a high, ambitious goal to achieve that upgrade. We decided to launch this because you can release software updates but not hardware updates.”
Made in India
What’s more important than the launch itself is that according to Agarwal, the company will resume its production in India. Last year, partnering with Foxconn, the company began manufacturing the OnePlus X variant in India. But they had to cease production due to supply issues. Now, however, with 3T, OnePlus is yet again ready to start making in India. In fact, says Agarwal, they’re already in the early stages of pilot production.
With the launch of 3T, OnePlus is eyeing the big smartphone market, rivaling the likes of Apple and Samsung. Nevertheless, the company still believes in its online sales policy and will remain exclusive to Amazon.
