The American company, InFocus, has received the Indian Government’s Standardization Testing & Quality Certification (STQC) for its Iris-enabled smartphone. So now, you can get your Aadhaar card scans done easier.
The 4.5-inch smartphone is powered with 1GB RAM and a 1.5 GHz Quad-core processor. Along with 4G-VoLTE support and a dual-sim slot, you are guaranteed a seamless mobile experience. Running on Android 5.1, the device packs 8GB ROM that you can expand up to 64 GB.
The smartphone’s ability to capture the human iris image is its critical feature. It captures the iris under various environments including under direct sunlight. The phone includes an algorithm that captures and generates the image within 2 seconds.
Most accurate biometric device.
The STQC has conducted various tests on the device. And with almost zero False Reject Rate (FRR), they have declared the InFocus smartphone as the most reliable and accurate biometric device.
Named the world’s biggest biometrics project, the company plans to capture 2.4 billion iris scans for the government’s biometric registration processes.
The Country Head of InFocus India, Sachin Thapar, had this to say at the launch:
“We see great potential in the integration of Iris recognition technology in a ubiquitous device like smartphone. This represents a huge leap in stimulating the Government’s Digital India Initiative facilitating the biometric identification used across various institute and E-governance services, with just the use of a smartphone.”
Furthermore, Former Chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Shri Nandan Nilekani, also spoke saying:
“The InFocus Aadhaar- enabled iris smartphone is a great example of the innovation possible on the Aadhaar platform. The phone is timely as it can be used for applications like opening instant bank accounts with eKYC and as a cashless microATM for merchant payments. This will accelerate JAM implementation.”
To be used across industries.
The biometric smartphone is useful in various industries like
- Electronic Public Distribution System (E-PDS)
- Payments of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA)
- E-governance services such as passport, taxation, healthcare, and education.
What’s more, along with the government, business enterprises, and even telecom companies can use the smartphone to manage public eKYC and authentication. No worries about paperwork and language issues.
