Panasonic Corporation made two big announcements today. To meet the increasing appliance needs of local consumers, the company will open production units and set up a Research and Development (R&D) unit in India next year.
Speaking about the announcement, Mr. Manish Sharma, the President & CEO of Panasonic India and South Asia said,
“The new refrigerator factory is our commitment to offer a complete product planning including design, production and sales. It gives the necessary impetus to local manufacturing and offering value-based products, all attuned to government’s ‘Make in India’ vision. With nearly 80% of our products locally manufactured, the new refrigerator line will further accelerate product development matching the taste of our customers.”
Refrigerators
With more people looking to purchase value-added refrigerators, Panasonic will build a 14 000-square-metre production facility in Haryana. The 115-crores factory will start production in November 2017 with an approximate turnout of 500,000 refrigerators every year.

To meet India’s growing needs, Panasonic locally manufactures rice cookers since 1990, TVs since 1996, and air conditioners since 2013.
R&D center
Apart from the production unit, Panasonic has also planned to set up an R&D unit. The company believes that the unit, with its two technical divisions, will help speed up product development. According to Panasonic, the research unit will help their new Design Division to use robotic technology to come up with artificially intelligent products.
The company’s new design division which will be built in Bangalore in April 2017 with the partnership of Tata Elxsi.
