Google had launched a keyboard specifically for Apple’s iOS devices. It’s called Gboard, and it’s old news. What’s new is that the Google Gboard is now available for Android devices as well.
According to reports from various tech magazines, Google has planned to integrate the Gboard’s features into an Android app. With the v6.0 update to Google Keyboard, the name will change to Gboard.
New shortcuts.
Included in the new Gboard update for Android, Google is bringing in plenty of new shortcuts including a shortcut to search from the keyboard itself. In addition, you can share their search results no matter which app they are on. You can share information like location, phone number, and even a Google Maps link, all from Gboard. The update also brings gesture typing and GIFs. Oh, and there’s a multi-language support as well.
Coming soon to the App Store.
According to 9to5 Google reports, “Gboard is only available as an APK which installs over Google Keyboard, but it should be hitting the Play Store any time now.”
The Gboard was a helpful and much sought after app for many iOS users who had grown used to the Android way of things. However, it’s surprising that it took Google such a long time to announce their own feature for their own products.
