Every time Apple releases software updates, they stop signing firmware files of older iOS versions. That way, jailbreakers who’ve upgraded and have faced bugs and issues, can’t downgrade back to the secure version of iOS on a jailbroken device. However, iOS hacker, tihmstar, has announced that he would launch Prometheus, a tool that lets users downgrade or upgrade to an iOS version that no longer exists.
The first step in using the tool is to save SHSH blobs. You can use tihmstar’s tool, called tsschecker, to save the blobs in .shsh2 format.
- The tsschecher tool is only available for 64-bit devices.
- You’ll also need a jailbroken Apple device if you are to use the Prometheus tool to upgrade or downgrade to an unassigned iOS firmware.
- What’s more, the jailbreak should have the “tfpo” functionality. Other popular methods like Pangu 9.1 and Pangu 9.3.3, and the workaround, “host_get_special_port,” are also acceptable.
