Are you using the latest iPhone but wish you’d had an older iOS? Well, you can now get it thanks to an app called CoolBooter. The app lets you dual-boot iOS on your device of choice.
What’s dual-boot.
It’s what the name suggests. Dual-boot is a technology that will enable you to boot two operating systems in one device. You would’ve noticed this technology applied to many laptops and notebooks. If you own a Mac that runs both MacOS and Windows, then that’s the dual-boot technology at work. laptops are easy enough, however, when it comes to mobile phones, dual-boot had long been a problem.
Until, CoolBooter.
The app, available for jailbroken devices, lets you boot two versions of iOS in one device, whether it’s an iPhone, iPad, or iPad touch. Even though dual-booting has been around for a while, it had been a complex puzzle for everyone except developers. Now, though, CoolBooter makes it easy for anyone to boot two operating systems.

Availablity.
Still in its beta mode, the app is available for all 32 bit jailbroken Apple devices. But the process will work only on devices that currently have public firmware keys. So if you’re using a fifth-generation iPod touch or the original iPad mini, you wouldn’t be able to dual-boot in them.
These restrictions narrow down your options, but you can use CoolBooter in these devices,
- Apple iPhone 4, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5c
- Apple iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPad 4
How it works.
To get the process started, you need to install CoolBooter via Cydia. You don’t have to tamper with the app or modify anything because you can start using it immediately. You just have to launch Cydia, and a simple user interface will walk you through the process. Add coolbooter.com as one of your sources, and you can select your second iOS version. The same interface lets you switch between the two iOS versions.
You can follow CoolBooter’s Twitter account for instant updates and new beta releases.
