A certain Reddit poster has brought to light that Amazon Prime is censoring video content.
Tailored for India.
We know that the government of India has rules and regulations about showing certain media on television. To meet the Indian television censorship regulations, the TV channels censor their content themselves. For instance, sometimes channels have censored references of beef in cooking shows and even blurred lingerie advertisements.
However, when it comes to online content, the government has no such restrictions–except on child porn. Despite this, though, Reddit user, that_70_show_fan, claims that Amazon Prime wrongfully censors an episode of a television series.
The Grand Tour.
that_70_show_fan has found out that the fourth episode of The Grand Tour is partly censored. This is because the episode contains the carcass of a cow and a few scenes of nudity. Thr original runtime of the show is 62 minutes. But in Amazon Prime, the video runs only for 30 minutes, the user says.
Response to criticism.
When confronted, Amazon Prime had responded with a dry remark saying,
“We will keep Indian cultural sensitivities in mind while offering this content to customers.”
Censorship rules.
This incident comes as a major shock to everyone fighting against improper censorship. Despite India being a small market for the tech-giant, Amazon, the company shouldn’t promote such behavior, that_70_show_fan lashes out.
