If you hadn’t heard of it before, we won’t blame you. Google made the launch soft in India and it’s natural that you may have missed it. Google Play Music is now available in India where you can stream songs and listen to radio stations from all your favourite artists. It’s much like All Access in the US, and it costs INR 89 for a month. Though it’s not much of a difference, Google Play Music is cheaper than Saavn and Gaana which cost INR 99 for a month.
Google Play Music
When you subscribe to Google Play Music, you not only get access to Google’s international music library, but also to a range of Indian music on the web. What’s more, Google Play Music also works like you do. With machine learning technology, location services, and activity tracking embedded into it, Google Play Music plays studies what you’re doing and plays music you might enjoy listening to at the moment. For instance, it can play peppy songs when you’re driving and soothing music when you’re reading or calling it a night.
It also offers a free cloud storage unit where you can store up to 50 000 songs and stream them any time you want to. Even of these artists are not on Google Play Music yet, you can enjoy your collection like in a playlist.
It’s not all fancy, though
Well, it’s obvious; even though Google Play Music is cool and fun to have, there are a few drawbacks to it. Unlike the US and Canada editions, the Indian version doesn’t have offer podcasts. And if you’re a fan of mixes, Google Play Music for India could be a disappointment; it only hosts mixes from Indian music. And changing the language preferences to something more western didn’t help either. Having said that, though, mixes are a huge factor. It’s only a matter of time before Google rolls out mixes for other languages as well.
Well, with Google launching Play Music and Amazon planning to launch Prime Music sometime next year, it looks like music is the next big market in India. Let’s wait and see who gets the biggest share and how music will evolve in future.
