What was the one thing that your iPhone calculator app lacked? If you had answered “an option to delete or undo the last number you entered”, then you’ve been in the dark long enough, my friend. Apple’s iPhone does indeed have a backspace option, and it’s only just come to light thanks to Twitter user, @censoreddialogue.
Calculator backspace in action
Here’s a video that the user posted on Twitter, demonstrating the backspace or deleting option on the default calculator app of iPhone.

The tweet’s got over 20,000 retweets and thousands more people re-uploading the video. From the way it’s going viral, it’s safe to assume that most of the world wasn’t aware of Apple’s little smart trick. Well, Apple you could have come out told us all sooner, saving us much headache and confusion. Nevertheless, though, if you search the web for backspace on calculator, you’d find that an old Lifehacker post from 2014 had already shared the news, based on an answer on Quora.
I owe an apology to Apple for all the swearing I’ve done at them over the years. And then, I’m off to show off my new-found trick to everyone I know. The backspace makes calculating so much easier, I no longer have to start from scratch for every time I make a mistake in adding up my shopping bill. Well, what does this revelation mean to you?
