Google Assistant has just arrived for iOS. While this is certainly a great news for several iPhone users, there is a catch though. Apple won’t let you launch the Google Assistant by pressing and holding the Home Button cum fingerprint scanner. It firmly reserves this functionality exclusively for Siri.
While Google has multiple tricks up its sleeve like a quick access widget and even a 3D touch integration for its Assistant, nothing is as convenient as long pressing the Home Button. Well, it looks like there is actually a way to fully replace Siri with the Google Assistant on your iPhone. However, in order to do that, you need to jailbreak your iOS first. There are a plethora of guides available for the same on the internet. If you want, we can make one too. Just let us know in the comment section below.
Here, we won’t talk much about which is better than which. Just keep in mind that Siri is much more streamlined and finely tuned that Google Assistant. However, the latter excels with the sheer amount of content it offers. Also, the search engine giant is improving its Assistant quite aggressively. Now, let’s move on to the main part of this article.
Steps to Natively Replace Siri with Google Assistant On Your iPhone
Instead of proceeding directly to the steps, let me talk about a few prerequisites first. As mentioned earlier, you must have a jailbroken iPhone with the Google Assistant installed from the Apple App Store. Moreover, you need to have Cydia activator loaded into your device. Chances are high that this is already present in your jailbroken iPhone. Even if it isn’t, you can easily get it from here.
If you have fulfilled all these requirements, let’s begin with the steps now.
- Open Activator and click on ‘Anywhere’.
- Scroll down and you will see the Home Button subdivision. Tap on ‘Long Hold’ and scroll down further till you find the Assistant app. Now, touch on the tiny ‘i’ button and choose ‘Open Immediately’. You must do this if you want to launch the Google Assistant right from the lock screen.
- Next, open the Settings app, go to Siri and switch it off as you won’t need it anymore.
- After this, launch the Cydia Activator once more and go to the ‘Anywhere’ section again. Look for the ‘Short Hold’ option inside the Home Button subdivision and change it to ‘Do Nothing’.
Voila! You have done it. Now, long pressing the Home Button of your iPhone will activate Google Assistant instead of Siri. Even though this is a kind of unofficial method, it works flawlessly if you get the steps right.
