EaseUS is a popular maker of a number of utilities ranging from data recovery to backup and restore. The company is known for making powerful software that can be utilized by both professionals, power users as well as average end users. At some point, many of us may have used one of the utilities made by EaseUS. In this post, we take a look at the latest version of EaseUS Data Recovery software.
EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is available for both Windows and Mac. EaseUS also has an email recovery software, but for the purpose of this review, we will be taking a look at Data Recovery only.
Due to various reasons, we sometimes end up deleting files that are important. On other occasions, instances of drive or power failure may also lead to corruption or deletion of data. Using EaseUS Data Recovery wizard, you can try and recover deleted files. You can also try and repair files if they were damaged during the recovery process. All in all, it is a very nifty tool. Let’s check out how it fares in practice.
How To Recover Deleted Files With EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard
To get started with this process, you will have to first download EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard on your computer. EaseUS has a free version available for both Windows and Mac that allows you to recover up to 2GB data. To figure out how it works, you can try it since it comes with support for all types of file formats.
Once you’ve downloaded it, run the installer. Upon completion of the installation, click on the EaseUS icon on your desktop.
- A word of caution here. EaseUS recommends you to install the Data Recovery Wizard on a partition that is different from the one from which you want to recover data. For example, if you want to recover data from C:\, it is recommended that you install the wizard on D:\ or any other partition.
Once you open the software, it will display the following window.
Select the partition from which you want to recover deleted files. This will start the scanning process. The amount of time it takes to scan depends on the number of files that have been deleted. In my case, a quick scan had revealed around ~800MB worth deleted data. Once the quick scan is completed, EaseUS starts a Deep Scan to find the exact details of files identified in the quick scan.
Once the Deep Scan is completed, EaseUS lists all the files that it has found under different folders. You can also sort files based on different options like Graphic, Audio, Document, Video, Email and Other. You can drill down even further based on file type – jpg/jpeg, png, doc, ppt, xls, mp4 and more.
It is worth noting that while the wizard is running, do not download or delete any files.
Once the entire process is complete and you have found the file you wanted, you can click on it to preview. Once you are sure, click on Recover and select a location. Make sure you select a different partition – if the file was deleted in C:\, it is recommended that you select D:\ or any other partition.
EaseUS Data Recovery wizard opens the target location after the process is complete. You can then click on the recovered file to confirm that it is in good condition.
Ease of Use
Running EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard to try and recover deleted files is a very simple and easy process. The wizard has helpful instructions at every step, so there’s little chance for you to get confused during the entire process. Apart from that, EaseUS has also revamped the entire UI to make the wizard look modern.
EaseUS is very fast in terms of scanning for deleted files. The Quick Scan gets over really quickly, while Deep Scan doesn’t take a lot of time and resources either.
Saves File Structures
Another aspect that impressed me was that the wizard restores files along with their original names. This can be helpful when you had organized and named your files in a certain way.
Thorough File Organization
This is one of the best features of EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard. The file organization and presentation is very neat, with all the sorting and filtering options that you can think of.
EaseUS has increased the limit on the amount of data you can recover with the free version to 2GB from 1GB previously. You can experiment with the wizard and see if it works for you. In case you hit the limit and want to recover additional data, you can purchase the Pro version from the company’s official website.
