In its latest attempt to thwart hackers, Facebook has introduced a new feature called “login approvals,” a second step to the login process. When enabled, apart from entering the usual email address and password you will additionally have to enter a security code that will be sent to your mobile phone.
This may be annoying for many but a great feature for those who are extra cautious about their account, needless to mention the Celebrities! 🙂
This is similar to the security feature employed by the banks where in they send a code to your mobile phone and you need to enter it to complete the transaction. It’s really secure given the fact that the chances of your account being hacked and mobile phone being stolen by the same person is very very rare.
How Do I enable it?
Visit your Account settings page by clicking on the “Account” link at the top-right of the Facebook homepage.Go to the “Account Security” section, now look for the new “Login Approvals” option. You first need to confirm the mobile phone, by entering in a security code sent via text message to your phone. This is to ensure that you don’t see the message again when using that same computer.
If you ever login from an unrecognized device, another security code will be sent to your phone and you will have to verify it. You will also be notified of this change upon the following login to Facebook, and asked to verify the attempted account access.
If it wasn’t you who had attempted to sign in from the other device, you’ll be able to change your Facebook password to re-secure the account immediately. Be rest assured that the person who attempted to hack into your account would not have been able to access it.
What If I lose my phone?
There is no need to panic, you can always access your account from a previously authorized device and change the primary mobile number linked to your account.
I have had a lot of readers complaining of not able to login from same so-called authorized device and failure to receive the code, hence the account being Blocked. So the best bet would be NOT TO ACTIVATE THIS FEATURE.
The main reason why people are facing this issue is, they Activate this feature and then for some reason remove the Mobile associated with their account or turn off the Mobile Notifications, due to this Facebook doesn’t find any mobile number, where it can text the code. So you need to take care about this!
Its not that risky either, I personally know a few people who have been using it without issues.
If you have been a victim of such a problem, you may try this to recover your account:-
For this, you need to remember the security question/answer setup during signup, you will also need an email account other than one currently associated with your facebook account. Now open facebook and click on forgot your password. Identify your account by entering your current facebook associated email. Click on “this is my account” if you are sure this is your account. On the reset your password page click on the link “no longer have access to these”. Enter your new email ID and click “Submit”. On the next page you will be asked a secret question that you configured first time while creating your facebook account and click submit. Now enter a new password and click submit. Now the facebook account lockout policy will take 24 hours to review your settings. After 24 hours login with your old email and new password. it will ask you to review your settings remember to add your mobile number where you can now receive your code. enter code and you will be in. Now its upto you either remove login approval or retain it.
