Steganography – How to hide any secret stuff in an image!

Steganography – How to hide any secret stuff in an image!

Playing hide and seek was my favourite game of my childhood. It was fun. And whenever i were in my class I used to pass on chits to my friends written in Reverse Characters so that no one else could read what i wrote in that piece of paper.

Lemme introduce you to the art of Steganography. Unlike encryption, which obscures data in such a way that it’s obvious someone’s keeping something from listeners-in (and therefore heightens interest in that info), steganography techniques offer no hint to the outsider that there’s any private data contained within the visible file.

In Short, it helps you to hide secret text or image inside another image! So it will be cool if you can share secretly coded images with your girlfriend even publicly and no one would know!

There are a lot of free programs available on the net that will help you in this, but i will start-off with Hide in Picture (Windows)

Get the freeware here - Hide in Pictures on Sourceforge.net

When downloaded, open it and browse for a file in which you wish to hide stuff. You can only use .bmp or .gif pictures with this app.

Click on the Hide file in picture button. See the above screenshot for reference.

Browse for the file you wish to hide. Oh yes, choose a file whose size is lower than the image your are hiding picture in. Then enter the password to lock it and click OK.

You are done! you can send the picture to anyone you like to, but make sure they too have the same Hide in Pictures App so that they can decode it.

By the way, i too have made a secret image -

Just right-click on it and Save it anywhere you wish to then decode the stuff inside it using the Password – 123

While saving the secret file, dont forget to change the extension to .gif

Enjoy :D
