Facebook Beats Google to become the Most Visited Site

No, this is not any April-Fool-in-Advance News Guyz, its 101% true. According to the latest Hitwise data, Facebook reached an important milestone for the week ending March 13, 2010 by just beating Google to become the most visited website in the US. It was a close fight and the difference was of only 0.03%

Actually this is not the first time Facebook surpassed Google in the US. Recently on the Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day too it reached the #1 Ranking. The reason behind this is understandable as Facebook will have more visitors during the Holiday seasons since it it has become the favourite spot among users to communicate with their dear ones and their family.

Facebook vs Google

Facebook.com’s market share of visits increased by a whopping 185% last weeks as compared to the same week in 2009, while visits to Google.com increased only by 9%. Together they accounted for 14% of all US visits last week.

Looks like The Facebook team is working hard these days. They recently opened their first office in Asia in Hyderabad, India which is often popularly known as Cyberabad :P. This is an important development as The company blog states that 70% of the people using Facebook come from outside the U.S and from India alone there are 8 million active users.
