Open your bank or credit card statement for the last three months. Scan every recurring charge you don’t recognize. That $15.99 “HBO*WARNER” line item is probably Max. The $11.99 “DISNEY*B” is Disney+. If you used PayPal, log in and go to Settings > Payments > Automatic Payments. It lists every merchant with a billing agreement. That’s where dead subscriptions hide.

Find Every Subscription You Actually Have
You probably forgot you had a service. Open your bank’s app or website. Filter transactions by “recurring” or search for “stream,” “media,” “subscription,” and each service name. Look for weekly, monthly, or yearly charges. A $4.99 charge from “STARS*SAMSUNG” is a Samsung TV Plus add-on you never used. Write down the exact amount and the merchant name. You’ll need it to confirm the cancellation went through.
Check PayPal next. Go to Settings > Payments > Automatic Payments. Click each merchant and look for an active subscription. Cancel directly inside PayPal when you can. Some services block cancellation on their own site if you subscribed through PayPal. The same logic applies to Apple Pay and Google Pay. Check their transaction history too.
The Fastest Way to Cancel Each Major Service
Netflix
Log in on a browser. Click your profile icon in the top right, then select Account. Under “Membership & Billing,” click Cancel Membership. Deleting a profile doesn’t stop billing. You must hit Cancel Membership. Netflix kills access immediately, but your billing cycle ends on the next payment date. You get the remaining days you paid for.
Disney+
Click your profile icon. Go to Account > Billing Details. Scroll down and click Cancel Subscription. Confirm. Disney+ lets you keep service until the end of the current billing period. If you subscribed through a third party like Roku or Apple, cancel through that platform. Disney+ won’t let you cancel directly if the billing goes through them.
HBO Max / Max
Click your profile icon in the top right. Select Account > Manage Subscription > Cancel. Confirm. Max ends access immediately if you paid monthly. If you paid yearly, you get the remainder of the billing period. Subscribed through a cable provider or Amazon Channels? Cancel there instead.
Amazon Prime Video Channels
Go to Account & Settings > Channels. Find the channel you want to cancel. Click Manage Subscriptions > Cancel Channel. Confirm. Amazon keeps the channel active until the end of your billing period. To cancel Prime itself, go to Account & Settings > Prime Membership > Manage Membership > End Membership.
Roku Channel Subscriptions
On your Roku remote, press Home. Go to Streaming Channels > Manage Subscription. Select the subscription and click Cancel Subscription. Confirm. Roku won’t refund the current period, but it stops future charges. You can also cancel from a browser at my.roku.com.
How to Cancel on an iPhone or iPad (Apple’s Subscription Page)
Open Settings. Tap your Name at the top. Tap Subscriptions. You’ll see every active subscription tied to your Apple ID, including services you signed up for through an app like Netflix, Disney+, or HBO Max. Tap the subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. Confirm. Apple handles the cancellation. The service stops at the end of the current billing period. If you don’t see the subscription here, it was purchased outside the App Store. Cancel directly with the service.
iOS 17 and iOS 18 both use this exact path. If you share a Family Sharing group, subscriptions under the family organizer’s account appear in their Subscriptions list, not yours.
How to Cancel on Android (Google Play Subscriptions)
Open the Google Play Store app. Tap the Menu (three lines in the top-left corner). Tap Subscriptions. You’ll see every active subscription paid through Google Play, including Netflix, Hulu, YouTube TV, and most streaming apps. Tap the one you want to cancel. Tap Cancel Subscription. Confirm. Google stops future charges. You keep access until the end of the current billing cycle. If you don’t see a subscription here, it was billed outside Google Play. Cancel directly with the service.
Android 14 and 15 work the same way. The Subscriptions page shows the next billing date and the amount charged.
What Happens When You Cancel – Immediate vs. End-of-Billing-Cycle
Some services cut you off right away. Netflix, Hulu, and Max end access immediately when you cancel. You lose the remaining days you already paid for. No refund. Disney+, Amazon Prime Video Channels, and Apple TV+ let you keep service until the end of the current billing period. You paid for 30 days, you get 30 days. Check the cancellation confirmation screen. It will say either “Access ends immediately” or “Access ends on [date].”
To keep service through the end of the period, cancel on the day before the next charge. If you cancel on day 1 of a 30-day cycle, you still get the full 30 days. If the service cuts access immediately, you lose the remainder. Read the small print before you hit confirm.
Don’t Delete Your Account – Just the Payment Method
Deleting your account wipes your watch history, profiles, and saved content. If you plan to resubscribe later for a new season or movie, keep the account. Remove the payment method instead. Go to the service’s billing settings and look for “Edit Payment” or “Update Payment Method.” Remove any cards, PayPal accounts, or Apple/Google Pay tokens. The service can’t charge you if no payment method exists. You can still log in and browse, but you won’t be able to stream. When you want to come back, add a card again.
This works for every major service except Netflix. Netflix requires a valid payment method on file even without an active subscription. For Netflix, just cancel the membership. For everything else, remove the payment method and let the subscription lapse. You avoid the “are you sure?” popups and two-step confirmation screens.
One more trick: install uBlock Origin on Chrome before you hit any cancellation page. It blocks those “Are you sure you want to cancel?” popups and the “We’ll miss you” upsells that ask you to pause instead of cancel. The cancellation page loads clean. You click Cancel once, and it’s done.
If you know you’ll resubscribe later, check Rakuten (formerly Ebates) before you re-activate. They often offer 5-10% cashback on streaming subscriptions. Click through from Rakuten, resubscribe, and get a small rebate. Worth the extra ten seconds.
