If you are one of the those people who are particular about staying organised, then there is every chance you maintain a calendar judiciously to jot down the important dates and events. Does not matter if you are on Android or iOS device, there are plenty of applications out there that help you maintain your calendar, not forgetting the default apps that come with the devices . However, the default Calendar app for iPhone is not the best and one you will be forgiven for not considering using given the cluttered UI. As a result, if you are looking for an alternative calendar app then Calendars 5 is one you might want to consider.
The application is free for a limited period of time, most probably till today (48 hours), or can be picked for as little as $6.99 from the Apple iTunes Store here
Using the application is exceptionally easy, as it understands the language that we speak. For example if you wish to create an appointment for 5: 00 PM for a review meeting with your team, you can simply write down ‘Set a reminder for meeting with the team at 5 PM’ and it will create an event for you without having to fiddle around with fields unnecessarily. You can also quickly toggle the view between the tasks, lists, day, week and monthly agendas that you have set up.
You can also sync your Google calendar as well as the local default calendar with the application, so if you have been using the Apple Calendar app so far, the app will automatically bring all the required events making migration extremely simple. You also have the option of setting up the Time Zone within the application as well as regular things like setting the default first day of the week, view settings as well as what you wish to see on the badge that sits on top of the app icon. We personally used the date there as we could quickly get the date today by just firing up the springboard on the application. The app gives you an option of picking up between Apple and Google Maps too for location based reminders which was really nifty.
Alert options can also be setup based on your preferences, as you can direct the application to alert you at the time of the event or just 15 minutes before the event takes place. You can obviously customise the alert sound from within the app. Calendars 5 is not just a calendar app, and doubles up as a tasker too, so you can add in the to do list that you have and can go on crossing it out when you are done away with the job. Just like default calendar app, you can sync the reminders from iOS default app to Calendars 5. However, we were not able to migrate our Google Task list to the application although the option does exist, maybe it could have been an issue on Google’s end.
In our day of using the application, we faced no issue with it and using it on iPhone 5s caused no freezes or random reboots. The application was butter smooth and did its job perfectly taking care of managing our time. The syncing worked fine, and pretty promptly. It certainly was one of the best Calendar applications that we have used and highly recommend you to pick it, especially since its available for free.
