Samsung announced the fifth generation of its Galaxy S devices and expanded its foray into the world of wearables with the Gear 2 and Galaxy Gear 2 Neo as well as Gear Fit. The Samsung Galaxy S5 which was launched globally at MWC in Barcelona will be on the market shelf ready to retail starting April 11th. All the four colors of the device including a gold variant will be sold in India. The big bummer though is that the Indian variant at least at the start would only be 3G compatible and only 16 GB models would be sold in India unlike International market where 32 GB versions exist too.
Samsung Galaxy S5
The Samsung Galaxy S5 in India would run the Exynos 5422 Octa-Core Processor which is a combination of Quad Core A15 1.9 GHz and Quad Core 1.3 GHz A7 chips. The phone has a 5.1 FHD Super AMOLED display with really good color reproduction. The rear Camera on the device is a 16 MP shooter with 1/2.6″ sensor while the front facing camera is a 2 MP unit. The device is IP67 certified meaning it is dust and water resistant in case you want to step out with it in rainy condition. There is also a unique power saving mode which Samsung claimed could extend the standby of your device to 24 hours with only 10% battery remaining. There is 2 GB RAM on board and the phone comes with Android KitKat 4.4.2 out of the box. The battery on the device is a removable 2800 mAh.
Samsung Wearables
Not just the Galaxy S5, Samsung also announced three new wearables for the Indian market, all of which will go on sale along with the S5 from April 11th. The Gear Fit is a fitness tracking device with Heart Rate monitor built into it and has a 1.84 inch curved Super AMOLED display. The battery on the device is a 210 mAh and lasts upto 4 days. The device is IP67 resistant and has a Bluetooth 4connectivity.
The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are successors to the Gear 1 which did not do great in the market. The two devices are exactly the same with Gear 2 Neo devoid of the Camera module of Gear 2. The Gear 2 Neo as a result is slightly lighter at 55g as compared to Gear 2 which is 68g. Both devices have changeable straps and a 1.6 inch Super Amoled display. The two devices work on Tizen OS and not Android like the first set of Gear devices.
